Niall Roberts was in touch to show us his new Beetle that can only be described as a true barnfind. This Beetle was serviced by Niall’s dad 27 years ago and was put into storage where it has stayed until September 2022 when Mark rescued it.
The Beetle is an original Irish registered Beetle. It was finished in Sahara Beige (L232) and fitted with a 1200cc engine. This was one of the first of the 1200N Base Model Beetles for the Irish market so it’s quite unique in that respect. Leaving MDL’s Naas Road plant in early March 1974, this Beetle was delivered to Finn’s Garage in Gorey, County Wexford and from there it was sold straight away. The first owner was a Wicklow resident so it was given an NI registration.
Niall is getting straight into the restoration so we can’t wait to see how his new project progresses over the winter and coming years. Best of luck Niall and don’t forget to send us the update photos.
UPDATE 23/04/24: It’s not often we get to do such a dramatic update with a before and after but I think you’ll agree this one was worth waiting for. It really is like looking at a new Beetle and it’s hard to believe that this is the same Beetle that Niall dragged out of a barn just over a year ago. All we can say is well done. You have done an amazing restoration of a rare 1200N Beetle. We cannot wait to see this Beetle at shows or classic car runs very soon. Happy Motoring Niall!!!!!
