Back in August 2025, Darren O’Rourke from the Original Irish Aircooled Volkswagen Group posted a photo of a recent Garage Find Beetle. It’s not often that something as well preserved as this Beetle comes along so it was going to grab our attention for sure!
The owner, a mechanic by trade, and a person that runs his business out of the same building that once was the service and sales saviour of aircooled VWs for many years in Dublin. This business was once owned by a lovely man, Mr. Dunne, who kept older aircooled Volkswagens on the road when they were just old cars and had not quite reached classic status yet. The fact that he himself was an enthusiast was a major bonus for any Volkswagen owner in Dublin at the time.
So back to this Beetle. This Beetle was apparently hiding in the owner’s garage at their house since the 1990’s. This is not just any old Beetle though, it’s a rare 1302LS Beetle, in original paint and what makes it even better is that is only has 70k miles on its 1600cc engine. Joe said that he purchased it from the daughter of the second owner but she did not drive it. This Beetle has only had 2 previous owners and was pbviously very well looked after all its life. Joe is no stranger to aircooled VWs himself, owning an immaculate 1978 Beetle with just 47k miles, a low mileage US spec Cabrio with a minuscule 6k miles and a Lowlight Bay, so he knew that in order to recommission this Beetle a few basic jobs needed to be sorted out. Joe replaced the brake shoes, cylinders, discs, fitted a new exhaust, clutch, crankshaft oil seal and even fitted a new fuel tank as the old fuel had damaged the original one.
Having seen all of Joe’s other VWs we know that this 1302LS Beetle is in the right hands and we can’t wait to see it out and about at next year’s shows. Best of luck Joe!
