Info

The Beetle.ie Census is made up of current surviving VWs, photographs of VWs from back in the day and sometimes, like this listing, it is made up with only some of the original VW left! Thankfully, what is left is the registration number and that’s all we need.

TJ Gleeson from Kilkenny spotted the remains of this Irish assembled Beetle recently while out and about in Tipperary. The owners said that this was their first car and they have kept the engine lid with number plate as a memento. As you can imagine, the rest of the Beetle is long gone.

The Beetle in question is, or was, a Sea Blue (L360) 1300cc Beetle Deluxe. It was assembled in MDL’s Naas Road plant in September 1965, sent to its Tipperary dealer where it was sold from in October 1965. The first owner was based in Tipperary South Riding hence the HI registration.

Thanks for submitting this one TJ.
