1200 Beetle Deluxe
Info
I just love when people go a little bit custom on their old VWs. Having grown up in a time when Beetles were plentiful and cheap, modifying your VeeDub was part of the then vibrant club and show scene and in some ways, it was the norm, with stock restorations being in the minority. That’s the complete opposite now so when Eugene Wixted snapped this 80’s style Beetle I had to have it on the Census.
On display at the Carlow Show on Sunday 7th May 2023 was this June 1968 Dublin registered Beetle. It has had major work done to it to get the fibreglass Porsche style Turbo kit fitted. These kits were so popular at one time that even Volksworld Magazine had a Turbo kit as a top prize in a competition they were running in or around 1988/89.
As for this Beetle, we don’t know the owner so cannot confirm any information other than what we can see in Eugene’s photos. There are twin carbs fitted so the original 1200cc engine is long gone, possibly replaced by a 1600cc unit. Whatever engine is in there, it has been colour coded and detailed.
We’d love to know more about this Beetle so if it’s yours or if you know the owner, please get in touch.
