This 1968 Karmann Ghia was driven to Ireland from Germany (date unknown)
It’s understood that it was driven here by a guy coming to work on a farm in Kildare. Having served his time, the German returned home (presumably by plane) and the car remained in storage in a farm building in Kildare for some time. A guy from South Dublin eventually bought it as he needed a replacement engine for his own KG. Once the engine was removed he left the car with the garage apprentice to sell on. This was 2010 when I bought it as a parts car and then a few years I later sold it on. It has changed hands again since and recently undergone a full restoration. Last seen for sale on donedeal in the summer of 2018 (see picture).
Here is the wording from the ad. The owner has done a fantastic job bringing this Ghia back to life and it looks like a good price too.
“Beautiful 1968 VW Karmann Ghia presented in excellent condition. Major restoration completed in 2017. Fully documented & photographed. A brief summary of work carried out includes new floor & heater channels, several new panels, full mechanical overhaul, new carpets, seat covers, headliner and fresh new paint finished in Gazelle Beige, 1200cc reconditioned engine with 49,000kms. As you can see from the photos, the car is finished to a very high standard with beautiful chrome work and Coker whitewall tyres to give it a classic look.”
