This is a project Beetle with a family history. Eoin Mackey sent this into us and it was his father-in-law’s father’s Beetle so holds huge sentimental value for the family. It looks reasonably ok from here but up close it’s a basket case but as there is so much family history there, Eoin is going to do his very best to save it. He is under no illusion that this is going to be an easy restoration but he has time, skills and friends with even more skills and that’s half the battle. I’m sure Eoin will be in touch as his search for parts begins and we will happily help him out in whatever way we can, as will the VW community who are nothing if not generous with time, advice and parts. So, what of the Beetle itself? It’s a 1974 Tipperary South registered 1200 model. The original engine is long gone but there was a fresh rebuilt motor installed not long before it was taken off the road so that should be one less job for Eoin to sort once he has replaced all the service items.
