Info

1966 Splittie, originally from Georgia before being bought in Idaho. It was imported by Limerick native Darren Harris who set a deadline of his wedding to fully stripdown and restore this ’66. A big challenge you might say but even bigger as he had NEVER restored a car in his life! Nothing like a deadline though and finish it he did, just!

The Split looked in brilliant shape outside Monaleen Church in the sunshine. It has since been used by Darren and his wife for camping holidays and friends’ weddings as well as being the registration point for the Jumpstart VW Show in Loughmore, County Tipperary.

As you can see from the pics, it may have eeven required the assistance of a modern van to tow it home. To be fair, it was all down to a .50c oil cooler seal so nothing life or death.
