Joseph M Purfield and Eamon O’Grady are fantastic contributors to Beetle.ie’s Census on Volkswagens in Ireland and have thankfully submitted quite a lot of photographs of aircooled VWs, some already listed and others waiting in the pipeline to be uploaded. We are extremely grateful for the time both gentlemen put in to taking these photos and for allowing us to use them.
These particular photographs were taken by Joseph at the Malahide Lions Club Classic & Vintage Show back in 2018, on a rainy day by the looks of it too, and then at a Wicklow Vintage Club event on what can be seen is a much sunnier day while Eamon O’Grady took his shots of ZV 8114 at the 2019 running of the Malahide Show, a sunny roof down kind of day by the looks of it. Eamon also managed to capture the owner’s personal anti-theft system enjoying the sun but I’m sure, always alert!
The 1964 1300cc Karmann Beetle Cabriolet has been on the Irish VW scene for many years since it was imported and registered in Dublin. The two-tone Ruby Red (L456) and Black (L41) paint scheme certainly makes this Beetle stands out from any other Beetles on display, be they hardtop or cabriolet. There aren’t too many accessories fitted to this Beetle but what has been fitted is period perfect like the spotlamps, whitewall tyres and diamond pattern wheel trims. The Wolfsburg logo badge fitted above the bonnet handle is not correct for the year but it suits this Beetle perfectly.
Congrats to the owner for always showing their Beetle in excellent condition. From what we remember, ZV 8114 has certainly been a regular at shows since the 1990s.
