Model information

1200 Beetle Deluxe

Info

Thanks to Gerry Barrett and Darren O’Rourke of Original Irish Aircooled VW Facebook group for this image which according to Gerry was found by him in a 1980s UK classic car magazine that was highlighting Ireland in the 1980s. Parked in front of the exclusive five star Shelbourne Hotel, this battered and bruised 1973 Beetle couldn’t be any more of a contrast to the Mercedes, Jaguars and Bentleys that were no doubt parked in front of the hotel.

This Irish assembled Beetle may have been only just over 10 years old but it certainly had a driver that parked by sound as the many crunches show. Having said all that, this Toga White (L90C) 1200 Beetle Deluxe still wears its original paint and front number plate so there is certain honesty in its condition and we would all love to find something this original and untouched today. The Triplex sticker on the windscreen is a lovely original feature that has been lost over the years in many restorations.
