Info

A massive thanks to Ronnie Neville for submitting these photos and the excellent story that accompanies it.

“This is me in the Summer of 1974 learning how to drive in my dad’s 1302LS Beetle on Dollymount Strand at just 16yrs of age.

Another photo from the family archives shows 4478 ZC (on the left, parked up beside the orange Polo) in the St. Gotthard Pass in Switzerland in August 1975. Note the carefully packed roof rack, plus the home-made boot rack, carrying a month’s camping requisites, including a full-sized Kosangas bottle strapped to the rear bumper. The two Mk1 Escorts and the other blue Beetle in the lower lay by were also part of a convoy of family friends en-route to Tuscany. As I recall, the other three cars had trouble keeping up with 4478 ZC, hence the need to pull over regularly in places like that.”

Why not check out Ronnie’s other submission; PZL 927, his dad’s (then new) 1968 Beetle.
