Info

We have carspotting_irl on Instagram to thank for submitting these photos of a very clean and original looking Gemini Blue (L96E) 1300 Beetle that they photographed in the Brown Thomas car park in Dublin.

We’re not sure when this October 1972 Beetle was imported into Ireland but we do know it was first registered in Donegal. We’d love to know more about its history because it is in fantastic condition and has been and still is very well looked after by its owner. All Beetles are considered rare these days so it’s nice to see one being used and also looking so original.

There are a few choice accessories on this Beetle that tell us it is someone’s pride and joy such as the bumper mouldings on both the front and rear bumpers, the finger plates behind the door handles, the mudflaps, the Kamei style engine lid vent cover and the front fog lights, but for us, it’s the excellent condition of the wheels and hubcaps that jump out at us. These may not seem like much but in bad condition they can really change the look of an immaculate original Beetle like this 1300 Deluxe. The AA and RAC metal badges mounted on the rear bumper mounts are a nice touch and a nod to its UK history.

If classic and exotic cars are your thing then why not give carspotting_irl a follow on Instagram. They post an eclectic mix of performance, classic and vintage cars spotted on the Irish roads on an almost daily basis. If it moves in Ireland, you’ll see it on carspotting_irl.

UPDATE 5-7-2021: We have been told that this Beetle is now with a very happy owner in Longford. Best of luck to the new owner.
