Model information
1200 Beetle Deluxe
Info
I bought my Beetle way back in 1992. By 2009, having been parked up by myself in 1994 (15 years) I decided to body off restore it.
Some metalwork was required such as the heater channels, quarter panels, floorpans while most of the other panels were in good shape.
It was a real DIY project with the welding and painting done by myself. Assembly was done with the help of my friend and local Bug nut Kieran Moynihan, he of the POS fame.
The engine is the original 1200 with only 61,500 miles on the clock. Wheels are 15″ Flat 4 BRM replicas with 145s on the front and 185s on the rear. Since this photo was taken I have lowered my Beetle.
UPDATE 06/08/2020: New photos added by Roger O’Sullivan
UPDATE 21/08/2026: Tony Daly from Cork sent us these period photos of WZT 692 as it was their old family car. I am waiting on Tony to send me some more information but to have these old photographs alone is amazing. This is what Beetle.ie is all about. This is why we set up the Census on Volkswagens in Ireland because every old Volkswagen has a story, and sometimes, often years after we add a VW to the listing, someone who knew the car from back in the day will send us a story, some background information or old period photos that just brings the story to life! Thanks Tony for taking the time to send these photos to us and we look forward to finding out a little more about this lovely Beetle.
