Sadly very little is known about this photo and of course the Beetle that features in it. Darren O’Rourke of the Original Irish Aircooled VW facebook group submitted this photo so thanks to Darren as always.
What we can make out from the photo is that it’s a September 1964 Beetle that was first registered in Galway so possibly sold from Madden’s Volkswagen dealership which was based in Salthill at the time. The Beetle was fitted with the more upmarket ACE style raised silver digit number plates which always looked fantastic with the chrome blade bumpers fitted to early Beetles. It’s very hard to make out the colour but it looks like Panama Beige (L572), but again, that is only a guess.
