Spotted in Portlaoise in 2017, original 1300S, Power Pack Beetle.
UPDATE Beetle.ie: This Powerpack Beetle has now found a new home in the care of Paddy Farrell in Carlow. Ironically, Paddy worked for Sheehy’s in Carlow, where this Beetle was sold from and it was Paddy himself who sold it to its first owner. You can imagine Paddy’s joy when many years later he found the Power Pack Beetle for sale. As he said himself, “sure I had to jump at it. there was no way I was leaving that behind”. Paddy has done a huge amount of work to bring this bright Beetle back to its former glory and has been on the road since getting the keys in his hands! Paddy has attended many shows and enjoys telling people the history of this car and more importantly, his history with this rare Beetle. Paddy also attended the 2018 Jumpstart in Loughmore, County Tipperary, to be part of the Special Edition Beetle display. Paddy’s 1300S / Power Pack Beetle was proudly displayed and looked amazing in the Tipperary sunshine.
UPDATE Beetle.ie 28-02-2022: We have just learned of the death of Paddy Farrell. Paddy was a gentleman and an true enthusiast with motoring interests beyond Volkswagen but VWs were his true passion. Paddy’s brother Jimmy has taken ownership of Paddy’s 1300S / Power Pack Beetle and we wish him the best with it. I’m sure he’ll love every minute behind the wheel and will do his brother Paddy proud. I would also like to say that Paddy was a great help with the research for the book on Volkswagen in Ireland and we had scheduled more chats because Paddy was a mine of Volkswagen information and was full of hilarious stories. May Paddy rest in peace.
