Info

This was a radical custom Beetle when it hit the Irish VW scene in the late ’90s. Pat Bolger from Waterford put a TON of work into converting an ordinary late ’67 Beetle into a cool California drag-strip style chop-top. Aside from the dramatic roof alterations, Pat de-seamed the whole car along with a full 6V panel conversion. The body-hugging contoured corner bumpers are a neat trick too, the way they are cut to meet the bonnet and decklid. The rear end featured a proper steel split-window section grafted in.

It’s photographed here at the VAGE show in 2002 (held in Ballyvourney) when it was owned by Padraig Kelleher. Shortly after that, Padraig sold it on and it was never seen again!! I have a memory the new owners were from the Cork area and owned a Jeans Beetle at the same time too. If anyone knows the owners or the whereabouts of GKI 685, it would be great to see it again! Let us know. 🙂
