To follow on from Trev’s previous entries on the Beetle.ie Census that were photographed in Reid’s Scrapyard in Kildare, here is a very sorry looking Double Cab that he managed to snap before it was crushed.
Trev said there really wasn’t much of it left at the time, although, if 9961 ZA appeared on the market today it would be snapped up and restored. Apart from being a rare VW, these Single and Double Cabs make for really practical Volkswagens to have in the garage because you will always find a use for them, plus when you’re finished using them for all your small household jobs, you can fit all the family in them and head off to a show for the day.
I know that if I had this October 1971 Dublin registered Double Cab in my garage I’d happily use it as it was intended. In fact, I have some old garden furniture that has to go to the dump and this Type 2 would be ideal for the job!
