The following set of photos come from our own Trev’s archives. This Wicklow registered Beetle was assembled in Dublin and then made the short trip to the Central Garage in Bray, County Wicklow back on the first day of December 1977. The Beetle sat in the Central Garage over Christmas and the New Year until it was registered to a Wicklow owner on January 17th 1978.
The Beetle left the Central Garage as a Dakota Beige 1200 Deluxe model but it has seen the inside of a paint booth at some time since then and when it came up for sale in 2018 as a red Beetle. It was for sale in Athy for a reasonable €4,000 and then it was sold to someone in Ferns, County Wexford who then offered it up for sale in 2020 for just €3,000. After that, our trail goes dry and we have not seen this original Irish assembled Beetle since. Have you? If so, why not let us know.
