I have photos taken of this 1303 Beetle before and after its makeover, although the quality of the after shots are more than questionable sadly! I snapped it at Franklin’s Garage in County Limerick in or around 1990. This 1303 was actually a UK import and was wearing a 1979 County Clare registration. Having had a colour change as well as having some bling added, in the form of some engine lid vent trim, rear window vent trim, alloy wheels, finger plates, front and rear stone guards and of course that not so subtle Zoom Tube which was the must have accessory if noise on a budget was your thing at that time. Sadly though, after all that time, effort and money, 347 BIE hasn’t been seen on the road. It certainly didn’t make it onto the digital tax system which means that for some reason this very tidy Beetle hasn’t been taxed since before 1993. Maybe it’s stored in a garage somewhere waiting for makeover number two!
