Anyone involved in the VW scene at any time over the last thirty years will have seen this Beetle at nearly all the big Volkswagen shows from Kilcommon to the Beetles Reunion. The faux Oval Window Beetle has been around since the 1990s and hasn’t changed much at all, apart from the wheels really.
John Filby saw 1544 ZJ at the Kilkenny Car Club Show during the summer of 2022. John took some snaps but I have also added a photo that Joseph M Purfield took back in July 2018 but I remembered that we had older photos of this Dublin registered Beetle in the Beetle.ie archive and we did. I have included photos of this customised 1973 Beetle from Kilcommon Festival in 1992 and the Limerick Classic Car Show in 2002 which was held in Ballyneety, County Limerick.
We’re not sure if this is owned by the same owner, same family or a number of owners but whoever has been the keeper for three decades, well done. It’s not easy to maintain these old VWs for that length of time but I think this shows how much of a Beetle fan they are.
