Info

Thanks to Pat O’Flynn in Mallow for yet more period photos from his family collection.

This Beetle was registered in March 1962 in Dublin. It made its way to Cork in the mid to late 1960’s, Kanturk to be exact and was then bought by Pat’s dad Dave O’Flynn.

VZC573 replaced Dave’s beautiful black 1956 Oval ZX2638. Dave bought this ’62 in O’Callaghan’s of Kanturk for £300 but it needed an engine so Johnny Murphy fitted a replacement 1200cc unit for £140.

In the photo showing the front of Dave’s ’62 you can just about see a very young Pat in the back left, his dad Dave at the wheel and siblings Dave jnr and Mary to the right.

What’s very interesting about this 1962 Beetle is that it seems to have been ordered with some very nice accessories such as the towel rail bumpers, rear vent trim and rain gutter trims. All very rare to find on an Irish Beetle of the time.

Thanks again Pat for the photos. These are what makes our VW history.
