Type 3 Variant
Info
A rare sight on Irish roads and shows has to be a Type 3 Variant. This Cork registered Variant was snapped by Jim McCallum when he visited the Mosney Classic Car Show in 2008. The Texas Yellow (L10B) Variant was first registered in February 1973 but we don’t know too much more of its history. The suspension was lowered at some point in the early 2000s we believe and it changed hands once or twice around that time but again, that’s all we know. If you can shed any light on this cool car please get in touch.
UPDATE 12-03-2021 from Tim: The Variant RZT 768 was scrapped many years ago due to major rust everywhere. The only surviving part was the floor chassis and logbook. The floor was used on a Fastback with an existing floor beyond repair. And as the law requires the stamped chassis, logbook and number plate go on the repaired vehicle. So RZT 768 is now a restored Fastback, white in colour. Its been taxed as such for 2 years it now resides in Westmeath, as does OZJ 798, the blue Variant that was in storage for 53 years. We got the Variant starting and driving 2 days after collection from Cork.
UPDATE 15-06-2022 from Tim: As stated the chassis from RZT 768 is now the new floor and chassis that was put onto a previously imported UK body. So the new guise of the RZT 768 is a white fastback. Here are the photos of the white Fastback.
Thanks for the update Tim. Well done on the restoration of your Fastback and for saving the old Irish number too. Looking forward to seeing your Fastback on the roads very soon.
