Model information
1302S Beetle
Info
Thanks to Pat O’Flynn from Mallow for submitting this 1302S to the Beetle.ie Census. Pat photographed the Beetle back in September 2021 while he was at the Kildorrery Vintage Run in his own beetle, an immaculate 1303 Beetle (ZV 7297) which was sourced and restored by Emilio Macari of Emilio’s Beetles in Lullymore, County Kildare.
The third photo was taken by our own Trevor Brady and although it looks red in the photo, it isn’t, the camera is to blame for that!
This 1302S Beetle looked in super condition when Pat photographed it. The 1600cc engine will push this Beetle along so it can keep up with modern traffic and the disc brakes will help it stop much quicker than standard drums. Add in the better suspension thanks to MacPherson struts and a better turning circle and this really is a Beetle for the modern roads. If you ever get the opportunity to drive a 1302 or its bigger brother, the 1303 Beetle, then take it because you will see how advanced they were for their time. They are the closest thing to a Golf of the day in terms of drive and comfort.
