This photo was sent in by Wayne McCarthy and it is of his late Uncle Jimmy with his Split Window Bus.
This was Jimmy’s ‘dance bandwagon’ as he had a dance band back in the day called Jimmy McCarthy & Dance Orchestra. It was used to haul the band members and their equipment all over Ireland.
Jimmy Mac ordered his new Split Window Bus from Jim Reid’s Garage Mallow and had it registered in December 1955 with its Cork reg of ZT9204. Jim Reid’s were main service dealers for VW and as such could source new VWs for their own service customers.
