Even back in December 1990 when I spotted this 1962 Beetle it was rare to see a 1960s Beetle ‘in the wild’ let alone an early one like this 1962 model. I snapped XZC 461 in the old Dundrum Shopping Centre car park.
The April 1962 1200 Beetle deluxe was finished in Anthracite Grey (L469) and looked fantastic. It had an Old Volks Home sticker in the back window so no doubt had been in there for repair work or even a full restoration.
XZC 461 was seen on the M11 I believe a couple of years ago so it’s more than likely still on the road. If it is, then well done to the owner for preserving a piece of Irish Volkswagen history.
