Info

This is another photo from Trev’s trip into a Kildare scrapyard. I’ll let Trev tell you all about it.

“I don’t remember the exact year but quite a few more than I care to remember, I was allowed in to have a look around Reid’s Scrapyard in Kildare for the very last time. The scrapyard was closing as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had instructed that the owner remove all of the scrapped cars that were on-site. I know some cars were saved but I’m not sure what happened the rest, baled and weighed in I’d imagine.

Was this July 1973 Kildare registered Variant saved or baled? I don’t know but as they’re so rare it would have been seen out and about on the Irish roads so in reality, the best we can hope for is that this Type 3 was stripped of every useful part and they helped someone finish the restoration of their own Type 3. In reality, back then, a Variant with a dented roof was never going to be high on someone’s list to save so yes, let’s assume it was baled.”
