Model information

1200 Beetle Deluxe

Info

I think this Beetle is (not so living) proof that no matter how rotten or how past their sell by date an old VW looks, it can still yield parts and can go on to keep other VWs going.

This Lofoten Green (L61H) Beetle is doing just that. Too far gone to save it was the perfect candidate to use as a donor for Billy Doyle’s custom chop top Beetle project. This Beetle has been supplying the usual mechanical parts you would expect a donor Beetle to offer up but it has also been offering body cuts to Billy as and when he has needed them.

Built in Dublin and then sent to Bannerton’s VW dealership in Ballinasloe, County Galway, this 1200 Beetle Deluxe was then sold to its happy first owner in Roscommon on January 12th 1977.

Our next entry on the Beetle.ie Census will be Billy’s chop top custom Beetle project (WZP 996)
