Info
If it’s one thing Darren O’Rourke can do, it’s unearth long forgotten photos of a time also long forgotten. Take this photo for example. It was part of a larger photo that Darren dug out of the archives and show OIK 495, an October 1956 Dublin registered Type 2 Split Window Panel Van. Just one look at the photo will tell you that this poor old van was not given an easy life, but then again, isn’t that why they were bought? A commercial is never going to be a Sunday only driver and as a result, the majority of Irish assembled Volkswagen Commercials have not lasted through to the present day. There are a few, but not too many which is why this photo is so unique as we can see this basic, no frills Split Window being used as it was intended, not that far from the factory where it was assembled.
Thanks for submitting this great photo Darren.
