This is a family-owned Beetle from when it was bought new in 1977. It’s current owner, Paul, is the nephew of the original owner and he has had it since the ’00s. I used to see it parked in the same street-side spot in Kilkenny city as a kid coming home from school in the ’90s but never knew who owned it.
In 2010 Paul had LIC 973 restored, treating it to the full body-off treatment. Sadly it had seen some questionable work previously so a lot of bodges had to be undone. During the restoration, Paul treated the Beetle to a lovely genuine leather interior and a pair of drop sprindles on the front axle. Other than that it remains stock, right down to the original 1200 engine that was fully detailed with powdercoated tinware during the resto.
