1200 Beetle Deluxe

Info

Thanks to Eoin McGreal for submitting these photos of a late 1976 Carlow registered Beetle he spotted on his travels recently. This isn’t the first time we have seen this Beetle as Robert Dunne also took a photo of it sitting in the back of Joyce’s garage while he was in the area back in 2021 so between Robbie’s and Eoin’s photos we finally have enough photos to complete the story of LIC 269 as we know it.

This 1200 Beetle Deluxe was registered in County Carlow in late 1976 and left the factory wearing a fresh coat of Phoenix Red (L21K). It is currently owned by the Joyce family who keep it in their garage in Newport, County Mayo and as can be seen from Eoin’s photos, it does come out every now and then, whether it’s driven is another thing.

What we can see from both Robbie and Eoin’s photos is that LIC 269 looks to be quite an original, straight looking Beetle that is having an easy retirement in Joyce’s garage. The only non standard thing that we can see are the high back seats or period aftermarket headrests that have been fitted. It’s a solid looking Beetle that hopefully will see the roads again soon.

Thanks to Eoin for the photos and also for Robert Dunne for his photo that was taken in the garage.
