When we look at the number of traditional and long standing shows not happening these days, it’s very easy to reminisce about the good old days, but in reality, they were great. Unfortunately we just didn’t realise it at the time!
This splash of nostalgia comes courtesy of Mark Fitzgerald’s photograph from the Beetles Reunion which was held in the Two Mile Inn, just outside of Limerick City. Mark had recently formed the Cork VW Owners Club.
This particular Beetle left MDL’s Naas Road plant in March 1976 and was sent to Kerry where it was to be sold. The 1200 Beetle Deluxe was then registered to a Kerry owner and after that, the history remains a mystery. What we do know is that at some point, this Beetle was on the receiving end of a restoration which included a full colour change to metallic green. The quality of the restoration looks to have been very high and would certainly hold its own against any present day restoration, in fact, as the spurious parts available back then seemed to have been of better quality, it may top any restoration today.
