Info
Here is another one that for the Beetle.ie Census that we have Darren O’Rourke to thank for. Darren is the man behind the very successful Facebook group called Original Irish Aircooled VW. Darren recently discovered this old image and we are delighted to share it with you. This 1968 Beetle is one of those ‘new’ Beetles, being a 1968 model, a 12 volt with Europa bumpers and modern styling. Some enthusiasts would see this as a sad change from the more aesthetically pleasing 6 volt sloping headlight Beetles but back then this was far more advanced than any other Beetle before that and a vast improvement. Gone were the weak headlights, slow wipers and of course the struggling starter. The scene has gone full circle now and these once sneered at models are now the new Ovals so to speak. An early 12 volt is prized now so little did the owner of this January 1968 Dublin assembled and Cork registered 1300 Beetle Deluxe know that their Beetle was a future classic in the making!
