Model information

1200 Beetle Deluxe

Info

This 1967 Beetle popped up on Facebook Marketplace in late 2025. The partly stripped Beetle had made its way from Ireland to England and was being sold as-is. This particular Beetle is one of those cherished and desired models by most enthusiasts as it is a 1967 model, a crossover year, full of unique one-year only parts. To top it off, the colour; Java Green (L518) is probably at the top of a ’67 fan’s wish list!

From what we can see, this Beetle has had some repairs over the years and is missing some of its 1967 only parts so best to start from scratch and begin with a full restoration. What is really cool about it is that a copy of the original Irish logbook comes with it so its history was not lost as it was ferried across the sea.

The seller, who is based in Flaxton, near York, gave this additional information about their Beetle that they were advertising for €1,800: “We’ve owned this Beetle since 2014 and are the second UK owners. We have the original Irish reg book which shows 4 previous owners. This vehicle was built on the Naas Road in Dublin. The windows in this Beetle have all the original shamrocks stamped on the glass. We’ve driven the car, although it was 2015. Partially restored, the exterior paintwork was done 7 years ago, needs new bonnet and boot lid, plus exterior trims and rubbers. All interior needs work, seat trimming, headlining and door trims. Incl. doors and wings. We have all the doors, glass and wings. Doors and wings have been painted already.”

So what do we know about the early history of this Beetle? Well, it was assembled in Dublin as the seller states, in October 1966, finished in Java Green and sent to Chris O’Mahony’s VW Dealership in Cork City in November 1966, was prepped for sale and in December a deal was done. The Beetle was sold to its first owner, who was based in Cork, hence the ZK registration. The Beetle did not actually hit the roads of Cork until the end of February 1967 and was taxed a short time later on March 2nd 1967. In 2005 the Beetle was changed to ‘vintage’ status so it could benefit from the lower road tax rate. We have some photographs of when this Beetle was in West Clare being enjoyed by an enthusiast, and funnily enough, the rear window still has a dealership sticker from a car dealer in Clare; Six Crosses Garage in Kilmurry McMahon.

So did it sell? We don’t know if it did but hopefully whoever buys or bought it, gives it the attention it needs. It would be really cool to see it back in Ireland as Irish assembled 1967 Java Green Beetles aren’t too plentiful in Ireland. Best of luck to the new owner and we would love to be able to update this listing at some point so feel free to get in touch.
