Sadly there is very little known of this Beetle and its back story but it is believed that these photos were taken as part of an advertising campaign by Bord Failte.
The photos were taken outside Dublin at some point in the late 1950s, and the only reason we are saying that is we assume that Bord Failte would have wanted to use a relatively new car and this Beetle is from 1954.
The ragtop Beetle Deluxe would have been quite unusual in 1954 as not many were ordered with this option so I’m sure when it rolled off the assembly line in July 1954 it must have looked pretty special.
Whether we know the full back story or not is almost irrelevant because these period photos are excellent and we’re delighted that Eamon Kelly from Irish Vehicle Registrations Past & Present Facebook group brought them to our attention.
