Model information
1200 Beetle Deluxe
Info
Everyone loves a barn find, especially one in black that’s covered in dust so when Christian Schmelter recently found this one in Carlow he knew he had to share it with everyone.
This particular Beetle is in the care of its owner who is struggling to let it go due to sentiment and nothing else. Well, we can all relate to that and we have also seen it many times before. It would be nice though if this Beetle Deluxe could find a new home, one that would take on the restoration of this characterful Bug. It won’t be a quick tidy up sadly as a full nut and bolt restoration is needed to bring AIX 392 back to its former glory. To add to that, the longer it sits in the shed the worse it is going to get so all we can do is hope that this isn’t on of those old VWs in the shed stories that ends up as an old VW on the back of a scrap lorry and that’s the end of that!
Assembled in Dublin and sold from O’Reilly’s in Longford in July 1970, this 1200 Beetle Deluxe needs to be saved, but will it? Who knows. Only time will tell so watch this space.
