Info
Roger O’Sullivan has done it again. Just when you think he can’t find any more Volkswagen photos in his archive, he fires this one through this morning!
Taken in the summer of 1995, a heatwave summer in Ireland, this already bright coloured Beetle must have taken people’s eyes out sitting in the glaring sunshine!
Nowadays customising Beetles is not really something we see too much of in the Volkswagen scene, mainly due to the rarity of our old VWs and the lack of cheap and reasonably solid project cars but back then it was the thing to do. You could pick up a reasonably solid 1970s Beetle for small money and put even less money into it to have a fun summer car. I’m a huge fan of customising VWs because I grew up in that time so this Cork registered 1977 Beetle floats my boat and I’m sure the owner loved every minute of it, especially when the targa style roof panel was removed!
This custom Beetle J-Truck is not to everyone’s taste but Beetles were the people’s cars and an expression of individuality so love it or hate it, the owner of this custom Bug went for it and I’m sure everyone who was in Dingle, County Kerry that day remembers it!
Thanks for the photo Roger and the trip down memory lane!
