Original Entry 01/10/2018: Thanks to Brian Maher for submitting this photo of a September 1977 Limerick County registered Beetle that he spotted at a show a number of years ago. The purple paint is not the original but works well on this late Beetle. Painting the chrome headlight rings and the side and bonnet trim matt black is a subtle modification. The original chrome side mirrors have been replaced with black plastic aftermarket mirrors.
UPDATE 07/05/2019: Thanks to Pauline Carroll for updating the history of this Beetle. Pauline notes “I used to own this car and I am the one that sprayed it purple. It was previously a light green colour. It was a 1.2ltr. I sold it in 2006 and I believe it was sprayed black afterwards and sold on again. I wonder where it is now.”
If you know where it is or have an up to date photo Pauline would love to know. Thanks for the update Pauline.
UPDATE 31/07/2019: Thanks to Charles for this update on 825 HIU – “That Beetle is still purple and is resting in a shed Cork awaiting restoration work.”
That’s excellent news and it confirms that there are still so many old VWs sitting in sheds waiting for a restoration or just to be reinstated for the road. Thanks again Charles, from all at Beetle.ie
UPDATE 01/04/2020: We have just received photos of 825 HIU as it is today. It’s dry stored and is awaiting some body work. Great to see this once Manila Green (L63Y) 1200 Beetle Deluxe still alive.
