Model information

1303 Beetle and Volkswagen L

Info

“This rock solid 1303 was offered for sale recently (July 2022) in Milford, County Donegal for €7,250. The previous owner had fitted different front seats that fit perfectly and look good in there too, matching the original rear seats and door cards extremely well. The car was supposedly driving very well and everything was working as it should. Paint seemed good too.”

Thanks to Noah for submitting this Beetle which looks to be an Australian spec Volkswagen 1303L.

This particular Beetle looks to be Rally Yellow (L10B) but as this 1303 has had a repaint at some point in its life, we cannot be sure the yellow was an actual VW colour. What we would advise the owner to do is to remove the fuel filter from the engine bay ASAP and relocate to a safer area such as above the gearbox or under the tank. Anywhere but in the engine bay!

75 D 908 looks to be an Australian assembled 1600cc ‘Superbug L’ or as it is more commonly referred to; the ‘L-Bug’. The Australian assembled Beetles, especially the 1303 models were similar to our 1303S models with 1600cc engines and front disc brakes but came with steel wheels and hubcaps, whereas the European 1303S models came with the Lemmerz GT Beetle style rims. 1975 was the last year for CKD assembly in Australia so this Beetle, if it is in fact an Australian assembled 1303, is a rare machine.
