748 FIU started life in May of 1977 so was one of the last batches of VWs to leave the Naas Road factory. It was sent to Limerick and was registered with its County Limerick registration and was sent out to work hard for its various owners until a local girl got her hands on it in the late 1980’s and said I want to make this my own and mind it.
The car was stripped down and readied for its new purple coat, the wheels were painted black, the headlights got some chrome eyebrows and new number plates replaced the battered originals. We spotted 748FIU at the Beetles Reunion in the Two Mile Inn Hotel on what was quite a wet show that year. Thankfully the purple Beetle brightened up the day for everyone!
This Beetle carried on through the 1990’s but we do not know what happened to it after that. If you know why not get in touch.
