1300 Beetle Deluxe
Info
Here’s a nice 1300 Beetle that I spotted at the very successful ‘Ireland Heads West for Emma’ classic car and tractor event in Galway which was held on Sunday 29th June 2014. This event was run by Thomas Heavey of Irish Vintage Scene Magazine and Retro Classics Magazine.
This particular Beetle was looking very fresh and showed signs that a lot of time and effort was put into the restoration. Without speaking to the owner I cannot confirm the paint code but we would assume it is Toga White (L90C)
The interior of the Beetle has received new upholstery in red and cream with cream piping on the seats. There is also a new carpet set in there too which is very striking in red.
The exterior features all new window rubbers with trim, new old style period correct number plates, a vintage AA badge as well as new chrome bumpers, tail pipes and hubcaps. The exterior also features both driver and passenger door mirrors.
This was a lovely Beetle restored to fantastic condition so congrats to the owner. it’s a credit to your care and attention that it looked so well.
UPDATE 24-06-2024: Hi Cathal. I bought the Car about 4 months ago from a guy in Meath, near Enfield, who had bought it just after the show that’s mentioned in your piece. He had it for about 10 years and says it was only of his garage about 2 or 3 times. I certainly believe him as the car is still immaculate. No rust whatsoever.
The car came with a huge amount of documentation right back to the early 1970s from it’s original owner in the UK. My Beetle has undergone a full restoration and I have pictures from the file of it going back to metal and having heater channels etc done. There are a few jobs I’d like to do like fitting the front brake disc conversions set I have for it here. I would also like to paint the wheels and add a period roof rack.
