Info
Derek Doyle sent us this photo of 427 BIU, a 1975 Havana Brown 1200 Beetle Deluxe that he photographed at Kilcommon Festival in County Tipperary. 427 BIU, a Limerick County registered Beetle, is seen parked in a lineup that includes the 98FM / Murphy’s Irish Stout prize Beetle 315 WIK, of course after the Beetle had been won and subsequently sold by that winner. The Beetle was in the ownership of Paddy O’Callaghan of Kanturk. The hand painted signwriting had been removed which was a shame.
427 BIU would have been assembled here in Ireland and was sold to a Limerick County owner hence the IU registration but as the rear window dealer sticker backs up, this Beetle was sold from Spooner’s of Roscrea. Buying from a different county was not very common back then as it was harder to travel around to various garages and shop around but this Limerick owner clearly did just that and was more than happy with the deal they got from Spooner’s.
