Here is a very nice original looking Beetle that I photographed in Limerick back in the mid 1990s. This 1200 Beetle Deluxe, finished in Kasan Red (L30B), was having some work done in Tony Cross’ garage in Limerick. Tony was for many years, the go-to man for Beetle repairs and maintenance in the Limerick city and county area and kept countless old Beetles on the road, long after the dealerships refused to work on them.
Having been assembled in Dublin, this Beetle was delivered to Limerick where it was sold to its first owner who lived in Limerick County, hence the IU registration. From what I can remember, 3377 IU had lived a relatively easy life and had been cared for from new. It certainly looked well cared for 20+ years after its assembly in Dublin when I photographed it in Tony’s yard. Where is it now? We don’t know but we would love to know so we can add to this Beetle’s listing on the Beetle.ie Census.
