1200N Base Model Beetle
This photo was taken in Castletroy Golf Club way back in 1988 which isn’t really a big deal but I would have loved to have seen them squeezing in the golf bag and the golf trolley into the Beetle!
Not much is known about this Beetle other than it was a 1200N or Base Model Beetle. It was one of the last to be assembled in Ireland and was registered in January 1978. It came complete witht he 1200N features such as the deleted crescent vents on the rear quarter panels, the blac bumpers, short headliner, cardboard door cards, no padded dashboard and overall, a lack of any creature comforts at all.
We know that 29 JIU didn’t make the digitised records in 1993 for motor tax so that tells us that this Beetle was not on the road so perhaps was scrapped by then.
What made us laugh was the fitting of the Kamei engine lid vent when there are no vents to cover up!
Do you know anything about this 1200N Base Model Beetle that was finished in Senegal Red (L31A) and more than likely was sold from Frank Hogan’s Volkswagen Dealership in Limerick? If you do then get in touch.
