Info

Mark Fagan posted this Beetle on the Irish Vehicle Past & Present Facebook page recently (June 2021) and very kindly offered to share the photo with us so we could add it to the Beetle.ie Census.

244 UYI is an October 1976 Dublin registration but the Beetle itself is listed as a 1973 model so it’s probably an early import to Ireland. It has also seen some restoration work over the years with later wings and lights added. It was parked in a driveway in North Dublin and is believed to be a regular on the Dublin roads which is great to see.

The engine is a 1300cc unit and the colour looks to be Gentian Blue (L51B). If anyone knows more about this Beetle and can fill in the blanks we’d love to hear from you.

UPDATE 5-7-2021: Emilio’s Beetles have been in touch to fill in the blanks on this Beetle’s story. It is in fact a 1973 Beetle that was imported into Ireland in late 1976. Emilio: “244 UYI was originally a silver Beetle that was on the Northside of Dublin for most of its life. It was restored by Emilio’s Beetles back in 1993 and lived in Santry, Co. Dublin for a good few years. It was an everyday driver for most of its time there. It was heading for the big scrapyard up in the sky back in 1993, however, with its restoration back then and a nice coat of BMW Metallic Blue it served its owner very well.”
