1200 Beetle Deluxe

Info

John O’Connor recently added this sorry looking Beetle to the Beetle.ie Census. Although not a lot is known about this Beetle, John tells us that it has sitting there for a very long time and has deteriorated to beyond where it would be an economical restoration.

This Beetle was built as a Deluxe model when it was assembled in Dublin in late October 1972. It was painted Kansas Beige (L91D) and fitted with a 1200cc engine. Once through the quality control checks at the Naas Road plant, it was sent to main VW dealer, Andrew Dillon & Sons in Clonmel, County Tipperary on October 30th. The Beetle left Dillon’s garage on November 15th 1972 wearing its new number plates 2233 HI with a very happy South Tipperary owner behind the wheel.

It’s a shame to see a very cool registration number and of course, the Beetle, left like that but that’s what happens with old cars sometimes. Maybe it might have been a parts donor for some local Beetles over the years that it was sitting there.
