Thanks to Brendan O’Brien for submitting this photo that he took in Kilcommon at the amazing Kilcommon Festival.
This Beetle was assembled in Dublin in May 1972. It was finished in Havana Brown (LD8A) and had a 1200 engine. It was sent to Dillon’s Volkswagen dealers in Clonmel, County Tipperary to be sold, and it was, in August 1972 to a new owner across the border in County Limerick, hence the IU registration.
At some point in its life 2195 IU received a refresh which included a set of EMPI style 8 Spoke wheels and a colour change to this beautiful metallic bronze. It really suited the Beetle, which, at the time that Brendan took the photo, was for sale.
Where is it now? Well, we think this 1200 Beetle Deluxe is back in Limerick and may be undergoing a restoration.
