Model information
1200 Beetle Deluxe
Info
This is the only shot I have of this Beetle. I took it in the car park of the old Dundrum shopping centre in July 1990. I wonder if it survived?
After being assembled in the Naas Road factory, this Senegal Red (L31A) 1200 Beetle Deluxe was sent to VW Sales on the North Circular Road in Dublin to be sold. It was registered in Dublin at the end of October 1974. 16 years later when I saw it, this Beetle looked to have been very well minded and very original.
UPDATE Beetle.ie 30-01-2021: Correct colour code and date of registration added.
UPDATE Beetle.ie 13-8-2025: It’s funny how sometimes you happen upon a photo online and it rings a bell. Well, this was one such bell ringer! Patrick Lynch posted the ‘red’ photos on the Original Irish Aircooled Volkswagen Facebook group at the end of July 2025. I saw it and thought no more about it. Darren O’Rourke, the owner of the same group, posted a photo of the same car but when it was going through its metallic blue period! I knew then I recognised the registration so I popped on and did a search for the reg number and it popped up as a Beetle I had photographed from a distance in a car park many many moons ago. Thanks to Patrick Lynch and Darren O’Rourke for the updated photos. It’s great to see it’s still survives to this day and that we have more history to add to 20 ERI’s listing here on Beetle.ie.
