Mexican Beetle
Info
This is not something you see too often; a classic Beetle that looks to be daily driven! In fact, it’s so rare to see old VWs out in the rain these days that it was enough for Wayne McCarthy to snap this 2001 Mexican Beetle when he saw it in traffic in Fermoy, County Cork yesterday. And for all those that don’t know, yesterday was a miserable rainy day in September 2024. It was more like a winters day than an autumn day which is why Wayne was so surprised to see any classic car out in the elements. We’re happy to see it out and about, being used and enjoyed which is what they were made for.
If you are looking for a daily driver classic Beetle, then you have to go for a Mexican built Beetle. They are excellent drivers with their fuel injected engines, more modern electronics and lack of rust as they are quite young compared to Irish Beetles that were last assembled here in 1977. Emilio’s Beetles in Kildare are the place to go if you are looking for a Mexican Beetle as they have imported them for years, and best of all, Emilio often rebodies them onto an original Irish chassis so you can retain an old Irish registration, benefit from the lower road tax all while enjoying the most advanced and modern Beetle ever made. What more could you want?
This 2001 Beetle is a Mexican built model that was imported into Ireland and registered in Waterford. It looks to be very original and in excellent condition so hats off to the owner or previous keepers. The first thing I noticed was that the heated rear window still works which is almost as rare as actually seeing an old Beetle on the roads these days!
