Now who doesn’t drool over a 1950’s VW? Try making it a factory black 1956 Oval Window RHD Beetle and you’ve got a lot of VW enthusiasts foaming at the mouth!
This Resto-Cal styled Oval was a recent import into Ireland when it was seen at the Beetles Reunion in Limerick in the mid 1990’s. It was a genuine right hand drive and a factory black Beetle with just the right number of accessories so in many people’s eyes, this was THE Beetle to covet.
The Resto-Cal style was really taking off back then and it was less in your face than the Cal Look style of modifying your VW. It involved a highly detailed restoration, but unlike the high powered, go-faster and bright Cal Lookers, anyone with a Resto-Cal Beetle, lowered the suspension with more camber in the rear than a traditional Cal Look and it was all down to the rare accessories that you could fit to your Beetle, all period correct of course!
This Oval Window Beetle was not lacking in the Resto-Cal way with a nice stance, wide & detailed in black & chrome Sprint Star rims, bumper over-riders, rear window blind, rain deflectors, bumper guards, Robri stone guards, pop-out side windows, Bambus parcel shelf, rear window vent trims…..the list goes on.
You could cruise to any VW show in this beautiful Oval Window Beetle today and leave with a trophy on the back seat because the subtle Resto-Cal style simply has not aged or dated this Oval.
