Roger O’Sullivan has been on a VW hunting spree lately and we are very grateful. Roger has been snapping classic cars all over Ireland for more years than he cares to remember and when he puts his mind to something, like finding old photos of VWs, nothing stops him!
WHI 14 was one of the photos that Roger was able to find in his extensive archive. Roger saw this Beetle and photographed it in September 1994 at the Muskerry Vintage Run.
The Tipperary South registered Beetle was assembled in Dublin in 1969. It’s a 1200 Beetle Deluxe and is finished in Chinchilla Grey (L70F).
The last change of ownership was in 1998 which is not a good sign, especially as it has not been seen since Roger photographed it in 1994 but perhaps it was put away by the owner or their family and it may live to drive the Irish roads again. I think all classic car enthusiasts are all eternal optimists really so we will always hope that these old gems are not scrapped or rotting away but are in fact just waiting to be discovered!
