SBI 754 is a rare beast being that it’s a commercial VW, and that usually meant it had a hard life so their survival rate was quite low as you would expect but it’s also rare because it’s an original Monaghan registered Single Cab that is still in Monaghan today.
This 1978 Type 2 was for sale at a reasonable €6,200 and for a commercial VW it looked to be in really good condition.
UPDATE 02/08/2023: We recently saw this Type 2 Pickup in a dry warehouse as it sat waiting for a full restoration. We were so surprised at just how good it is and not rotten in the usual places. Yes it needs a full restoration but the foundations are good and there aren’t too many nearly 50 year old commercial VWs that you can say that about. What impressed us most was the quality of the previous respray. They went to so much trouble to change from the original Sage Green (L63H) to its current red hue. The inside of the treasure chest and the interior metalwork have been painted to a very high standard. This is not something often seen on a commercial so hats off to whoever owned it previously.
